This is "No Name." This sweet boy was to be euthanized as the shelter he landed in is killing dogs to make space for more strays coming in. Stats prove that black dogs are last to be adopted. Sadly, the shelter did not even name this dog as they did not expect this boy to make it out alive. No Name looks VERY similar to our Malibu (a black Pointer in our care). We couldn't resist giving this boy a chance at life. We have sponsored him and he will be arriving here on Monday, January 5th where he will be vetted, groomed and then placed in a foster home for assessment, socializing and some basic training. No Name is primarily German Shorthaired Pointer. The shelter had described this dog as very sweet and gentleman like. No Name will most likely need to re-learn his house-manners. Please keep checking back here for updates and new photos.
We needed to give this dog a chance and couldn't bare the thought that she may never have known the love she deserves. We are sponsoring her and pulling her from the kill shelter she currently is in so she can spend her retirement years with a family that will love her forever.
This is Sandy. Sandy only has 3 legs but that does not slow this girl down. We believe Sandy is 9 years young but don't let her age deter you from considering this darling girl as Sandy has LOTS of life left in her. She is an amazing dog in so many ways. Sandy weighs under 30 lbs. is spayed, quiet and clean in her kennel. How could anyone abandon such a wonderful dog knowing her chances of finding a home will be difficult considering her disability. Sandy is a wirehair Terrier mix who appears to get along well with her kennel mate and seems OK with cats too. Sandy has not spent much time with young children so perhaps, a home with older kids would be best.

Julie landed in a very dangerous place (kill shelter) where she gave birth to 4 puppies on November 30th. One pup died within several days BUT the remaining pups are thriving. They are almost 5 weeks old now and their futures look brighter every day.
Julie will be arriving here on January 5th and placed in foster care in North Vancouver while she waits for her forever home to be chosen. We suspect that Julie met a black lab along the way and...well here we are. Please keep checking back here for updates.
He looks very "at home."Happy New Year to the proud parents of Sammy AKA Roddy. Thank-you to Maria and Roger for sending this stunning photo of Roddy.
Thank-you to the Rivers for sharing this photo. Rio is a German Shorthaired Pointer we rescued with his sibling Remi. Both dogs were found lost, cold and starving. Rio and Remi found amazing homes here on the North Shore.
From left to right > Hope, Charlie, Malibu, Ollie (visiting) and Kiera.Season's Greetings from Bonnie's pack.
Frieda "was" a dog that lived on a four foot chain prior to finding a wonderful home here (Frieda is on the left).Thank-you to the Dougan's for sharing this photo. Season's Greetings to Frieda and family.
Willie (left) now enjoys his life with Ricky, Maureen and Molly and couldn't be happier!
Thanks Cathy for sharing this photo and Best Wishes to you all!
Like many of the dogs we rescue, Kaiser came from a very troubled past.
Thank-you Jennifer for sharing this photo taken during the Christmas holidays. It's very difficult telling these two apart ;-)Season's Greetings to Kaiser (right), Stanley and family.
Nick & Jenny fostered and then adopted Hank (despite his past) and helped with Malibu's rescue by fostering her in her time of need...THANKS guys!!! Couldn't have done it without you! Let us know when you're ready for another challenge ;-)Best Wishes to Nick, Jenny and Hank the Vizsla. That's one way to get out of the snow.
"You are his life, his love, his leader, the center of his universe. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." Anon

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness, and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment, and then He spoke softly, "I have done something," he replied. "I created you."
Have you ever thought about volunteer work? Do you love animals? Are your home part of the day? You could have the most rewarding job in the world! Cross Our Paws is always in need of committed foster homes. We pre-approve all applicants prior to a meet and greet to limit disruptions to our volunteers. Cross Our Paws will provide food, veterinary care (when approved by our vet) and all other necessities to keep our rescues happy and content. All our rescues are vetted, altered, vaccinated and temperament tested prior to placing them in foster care. Fostering a homeless dog can be very rewarding and if you decide you would like to adopt the dog you will have first consideration. For more information contact us at crossourpaws@yahoo.ca.
CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE is a non-registered, not for profit "all dog breed" rescue organization. We are a small group of dedicated volunteers who love animals and have joined together to help rescue, provide medical care, rehabilitate and rehome abused, abandoned, homeless animals. Many times we rescue animals (primarily dogs) who have found themselves unwanted and lost in over-crowded shelters and facing death row.
All animals that come through CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE are examined by our veternarians prior to placing them in temporary foster homes. Placing our animals in temporary foster care, allows CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE time to assess each animal's individuals needs. It also allows the animal time to adapt to his/her new environment and receive any attention he/she requires such as training and socializing. With this CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE is more able to re-home the animal ensuring the best match for both the animal and his/her human companion.
Cross Our Paws Rescue is working with our local animal shelters to help find wonderful homes for the many homeless animals in need. These poor dogs are living in concrete kennels, cold and lonely, waiting and waiting for someone to take them home and love them forever. Many of these dogs have been living the shelter life for months. Please DO NOT BUY a dog from a pet store or animal broker as the money you pay SUPPORTS puppy mills. The cute little puppies being sold at pet stores are most likely mill dogs. Don't turn a blind eye while homeless pets die! ADOPT FROM A SHELTER OR RESCUE GROUP!
CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE is in need of monetary DONATIONS to help rescue animals in need of homes. If you would like to make a DONATION please click the PAYPAL donation button below. Without your generosity we would not be able to help as many animals as we do. Thank you so much!
CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE is always in need of QUALITY kibble for our dogs and no-pull harnesses and collars. If you can make a donation of any of these items please let us know and we can pick it up. Our rescues say WOOF and thank you for your kind support!
It's important to consider the commitment and time that goes into caring for an animal. There are medical, food and training expenses etc. and more importantly your precious TIME. It's also important to consider the breed of dog you are applying for as well to ensure a great match for both. If you are not familiar with the breed research it on the net and consider it's traits before making your final decision.
TRAINING SCHOOL WINNER! ;- )
If only all our dogs were this well trained. To ensure you and your canine companion are happy and content and your dog knows what you expect of him/her enroll in obedience training as soon as possible (however, don't expect the above). Cross Our Paws Rescue has many wonderful canine trainers to recommend in your area.
OUR ADOPTION PROCESS...
All CROSS OUR PAWS adoptions begin with an application (must be 19 years old to apply) followed by a home visit IF we feel the application is a good match for the animal. All CROSS OUR PAWS rescues are cared for in foster homes and in order not to be too disruptive to our volunteers, we pre-approve all applicants prior to a meet and greet. We recommend several meet & greets prior to adoption to ensure a "perfect" match. CROSS OUR PAWS will limit adoptions of our "special needs" animals to the Vancouver Lower Mainland areas so we can assist with any issues that may arise. It is also a policy if you have a yard, it MUST be FULLY fenced. We do adopt to apartment/condo dwellers if strata permits and the dog is suitable to be in a multi-family complex living arrangement. As we are all volunteers we try to reply as quickly as possible to all enquiries but it may take up to 48 hours to do so. To follow the adoption status of our adoptable dogs please keep checking our Petfinder site for updates and new rescue posts.
CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE requests an adoption donation for all our rescues as we could not rescue without it. Your donation will vary depending on the animals care and vet expenses (between $175 to $350). Your donation will help cover any vetting and care the animal may have required. If the donation exceeds the animal's vetting and transport, the remaining amount is applied to other dogs in need of rescue and care. CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE is a non-profit organization and appreciates any and all help! THANK-YOU!!!
Cross Our Paws Rescue recently received some very sad and disturbing news. Our beloved RICKY passed away after ingesting a small piece of fishing line off Ambleside beach where his new family frequently walked him off-leash. Ricky was rescued by Cross Our Paws in June of 2007 from a North Vancouver home along with another dog. The two dogs were living in less than adequate conditions. Ricky was in our foster care program for over 5 months and was dearly loved by all. Ricky was an amazing dog in every way and brought such joy to our rescue. We had difficulty posting the news and still can not believe he is gone. RIP our sweet, sweet boy. Ricky reminded us yet again why we rescue. He was only 18 months old.
REMINDER: Please keep a close watch on your dog while off-leash to ensure safety of your companion at all times.
Here is a video IN HOPE...an animal shelter story....

CROSS OUR PAWS RESCUE is run 100% by volunteers. We do not have a shelter facility to visit. All our rescues are immediately placed into loving foster homes and cared for in the home until suitable families/companions are found. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent please email us at crossourpaws@yahoo.ca for a foster application and information.
